About the film
Gangsta Squad goes back to the old godfather rules, it's a great old fashioned gangsta film with their smart Italian suits, top hots and the cigars. The year is 1949 and ruthless gangsta Mikey Cohen played by Sean Penn has the city of Loa Angeles in his grip! Against a gang protected by rampant corruption, Chief Bill Parker played by Nick Nolte who resorts to extremes. He enlists battle-hardened hero Sgt. John O'mara played by Josh Brolin to form a unit to exact vigilante justice. Their job isn't to make arrests but to make war. As the city explodes in a wall of gunfire, jaded cop Sgt. Jerry Wooters played by award winning Ryan Gosling is reluctantly drawn into the fight as he falls for Grace Faraday played by Emma Stone, the elegant beauty whom Cohen claims as his own. This film is also based on an incredible true story , Gangsta Squad blows open the secret files of the cops who fought for L.A's true soul.
Personal opinion
Gangsta Squad is surprisingly one of my favourite films I have seen, I'm not a big fan of old fashioned films for one and I am not a fan of gangsta films but this film had so,etching other films like this don't. The story does help as it really is a very tense movie with lots of action! I was surprised at the amount of violence in the film from start to finish, but they make it look so real and not stupid which quite a few modern films do nowadays. The actors are also casted very well, one of my personal favourite actors Ryan Gosling has a certain charm in his role of the police officers from when he is chatting up the lady's and in his ruthless gunfights. The film from start to finish is a movie masterpiece it has everything a film should have but it's very believable, there isn't one moment in the film where you think it would never happen, but it is definitely a film worth watching. I would recommend if you were purchasing the film to get it on blue-ray because there are a lot of slow motion shots, especially the scenes where there is lots of gun fire.
